After completing a BFA degree in ceramics at the now University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Ken joined the Peace Corps and traveled to the South Pacific. He spent four years in Papua New Guinea teaching vocational arts, developing a ceramics studio using hand dug local clays and developing his unique sensibilities of ceramic art. Ken’s travels throughout Central and South America, Asia and the Pacific have facilitated his study and collecting of indigenous craft and primitive art. Evidence of his studies and travels are apparent in his work. Upon returning to the Philadelphia area, Ken began his lengthy renovation / restoration of the Old Westtown Train Station in Chester County. It has been his home, studio, and gallery since 1983. The transformation of this once abandoned and neglected space is today an oasis of art and culture. Ken specializes in handcrafted, limited edition, functional art pottery designed to be used yet decorative for display. Stoneware and porcelain clays are high-fired for a true vitreous ring, and all glazeware is food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
