Jury - 2020 CHESTER COUNTY STUDIO TOUR
Pastel is made of fine pure pigment, the same pigment as is used in oil paint. Therefore, pastels, with their pure color, are considered paintings. My pastel works explore color, and how it is influenced by light and shadow. During the past few years, my travels have greatly inspired my work and have assisted me in realizing my goal of conveying the intense pulsations and energy I feel in the world around me. The experience of Plein Air painting allows me to immediately connect to my subject, and to react to my perceptions quickly and emotionally with pure, bold pigment. My studio work is the product of underwater research, and sometimes can be combined with a monoprint or watercolor base.
