Jury - 2020 CHESTER COUNTY STUDIO TOUR
Using alcohol ink, a newer medium with a mind of its own, I paint abstract landscapes that are vibrant, with intentional color blending that feels unusual but calming - like a dream or memory. These inky landscapes explore the connection between color, memory, and motion. All landscapes are created from a memory, rather than a photo of a place or moment I've experienced. By doing this I'm not solely relying on the reality of the memory, but the feeling of it. With a background in photography, each landscape is created as if captured by a lens, creating depth of field with ink. By nature, I am a solitary person who enjoys wandering on my own, and the feeling of “coming upon” a beautiful view has always excited me. These moments are taken back to the studio with me, and I love working through the process of reliving a memorable scene, choosing colors, and letting the ink flow organically to create dynamic planes of color.
