I have always had a deep connection to the animal world, and am inspired by the being-ness reflected in their eyes. My wish is that my work gives them a voice, and wakes us to compassion and recognition of the sensitivity and sentience of my subjects. While I am also a portrait painter of horses and dogs, I often paint foxes and farm animals, sometimes documenting the ephemeral lives of those now living briefly in pastures, or rescued to live in peace at farm animal sanctuaries. My intention is to create artistically satisfying work which captures the mysterious bond that we share with animals. My paintings come from a classical base, so I’m interested in strong light, depth, form, and brushwork, and compositions which make good use of shadow and negative space. Ultimately, though, it's the emotion and soul that I'm striving for.
